An Act To Expand Turkey Hunting Opportunities for Young Hunters

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11701, as amended by PL 2003, c. 552, §9 and affected by §15 and c. 614, §9 and amended by c. 655, Pt. B, §179 and affected by §422 and Pt. C, §§2 and 6, is further amended by adding after the first paragraph a new paragraph to read:

The commissioner shall establish a 6-day spring youth hunting season for hunting wild turkeys. The season must run from Monday to Saturday in April and coincide with a time when public schools are not in session.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to establish a 6-day spring youth hunting season for wild turkey. The season must run from Monday to Saturday in April and coincide with a time when public schools are not in session.
