An Act To Award Academic Credit to Service Members for Military Education, Experience and Training
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §10013 is enacted to read:
§ 10013. Credit for military education, experience and training
The University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and the Maine Maritime Academy shall each develop a system of prior learning assessment to award academic credit in undergraduate programs to veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, for experience, education and training obtained during military service.
Sec. 2. Report. The University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and the Maine Maritime Academy shall each report to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over education matters by December 1, 2014 on progress in developing systems of prior learning assessment to award credit for military education, experience and training in undergraduate programs to veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 10013.

This bill requires the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and the Maine Maritime Academy to each develop a system of prior learning assessment to award academic credit to veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves, for relevant experience, education and training obtained during military service. The University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System and Maine Maritime Academy are directed to report to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over education matters by December 1, 2014 on progress in implementing these systems.
