An Act Concerning Adverse Possession
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 14 MRSA §816-A is enacted to read:
§ 816-A. Payment of taxes by owner of record
A person may not claim ownership of property through adverse possession against an owner of record who has paid property taxes on the property during the period for which the person claiming ownership has asserted being in possession of the property.

This bill provides that a person may not use a claim of adverse possession to gain ownership of property against an owner of record who has paid property taxes on the property during the period for which the claimant has asserted being in possession of the property.
