An Act To Make the Completion of an Internship a Requirement for High School Graduation
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4722, sub-§2-B is enacted to read:
2-B. Internship. Beginning January 1, 2016, before graduating from high school a student must complete an internship approved by the commissioner and supervised by the student's school administrative unit.
Sec. 2. Internship standards. By December 1, 2014, the Commissioner of Education shall adopt rules establishing standards for internships that may be approved by the commissioner for the graduation requirement under the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 4722, subsection 2-B. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
