An Act To Promote the Sale of Maine Milk
Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §1820-A is enacted to read:
§ 1820-A. Milk sold at state-owned and state-operated facilities
A state-owned or state-operated facility that sells or contracts with a private person to sell beverages directly to the public, including a facility on the Maine Turnpike, shall make available for sale milk that has been processed at a milk plant in the State as identified by the United States Department of Agriculture. A facility in an institutional setting in which sales to the public are incidental, including a facility located on a state-owned postsecondary educational facility or correctional facility, is exempt from this section.
SUMMARY
This bill requires a state-owned or state-operated facility that sells or contracts with a person to sell beverages directly to the public, including a facility on the Maine Turnpike, to have available for sale milk processed at a milk plant in the State. This bill exempts facilities in an institutional setting in which sales of beverages to the public are incidental, including a state-owned postsecondary institution or correctional facility.
