An Act To Enhance the Development and Implementation of Integrated Pest Management Programs
Sec. 1. 7 MRSA §607, sub-§6, as repealed and replaced by PL 2007, c. 466, Pt. A, §25, is amended to read:
Sec. 2. 7 MRSA §2406 is enacted to read:
§ 2406. University of Maine Cooperative Extension integrated pest management programs
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension shall establish and administer integrated pest management programs. The extension shall seek the advice of the Integrated Pest Management Council created in section 2404 in establishing the programs. The extension shall use funds deposited pursuant to section 607 for the purposes of this section. The extension shall use 10% of these funds for competitive grants for integrated pest management projects undertaken by the faculty and staff at the University of Maine. The extension shall administer the grant program.
Sec. 3. Effective date. Those sections of this Act that amend the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 7, section 607, subsection 6 and enact Title 7, section 2406 take effect January 1, 2014.

This bill increases the annual registration fee for pesticides from $150 to $165 effective January 1, 2014. The bill requires that the additional funds raised from the increase in the registration fees for pesticides are to be deposited in an account of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and may be used only for integrated pest management programs established and administered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension with advice from the Integrated Pest Management Council. It also requires that 10% of the fee increase be used for competitive grants for integrated pest management projects by the faculty and staff at the University of Maine.
