Resolve, Directing the Department of Education To Develop School Building Security Plans
Sec. 1. Department of Education to develop school building security plans. Resolved: That, by January 1, 2014, in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Education shall develop a plan that makes recommendations to improve school building security and school preparedness in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. The recommendations of the plan required by this resolve must include, but are not limited to, subjects such as: ground-level security measures for entryway doors, walls and windows; electronic locking doors that can be monitored remotely by live video feeds operated by administrative staff; ballistic protection for walls surrounding administrative staff workstations; and information for administrators, teachers, students, parents and community leaders setting out proper procedures and measures to take in response to and preparation for an emergency or natural disaster. The Department of Education shall distribute the plan to all school administrative units and make the plan available on the department's publicly accessible website.
