Resolve, Directing the Maine Library of Geographic Information Board To Convene a Stakeholder Group To Study the Feasibility of Using Maine's GeoLibrary GeoPortal for a Pilot Project That Involves Geographic Information Systems Trail Mapping

Sec. 1. Maine Library of Geographic Information Board to convene stakeholder group. Resolved: That the Maine Library of Geographic Information Board, established by the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 5, section 12004-G, subsection 30-B and referred to in this resolve as "the board," shall convene a stakeholder group to study the feasibility of using the State's GeoLibrary GeoPortal for a pilot project that involves GIS-based trail mapping. The trail-mapping project must be established in a municipality that has an existing GIS infrastructure. The trail-mapping project must involve students, teachers, naturalists, GIS experts and the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, Office of Information Technology, Office of Geographic Information Systems under Title 5, section 1992. The board shall obtain funding from private sources or through federal grants. For the purposes of this section, "GIS" has the same meaning as in Title 5, section 2002, subsection 5; and be it further

Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That, no later than January 1, 2014, the board shall report the results of the study under section 1 along with any recommended legislation to the Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government. The Joint Standing Committee on State and Local Government may submit a bill related to the subject matter of the report to the Second Regular Session of the 126th Legislature.
