An Act To Prohibit the Placement of Political Signs within 25 Feet of a Cemetery or Burial Site
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶H, as amended by PL 1999, c. 152, Pt. G, §2, is further amended to read:
H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an election, primary or referendum, provided except that these signs may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6 weeks before the election, primary or referendum to which they relate and must be removed by the candidate or political committee not later than one week thereafter after the election nor may they be erected or maintained within 25 feet of a known burial site or within 25 feet of the boundaries of an established cemetery, whether or not the burial site or established cemetery is properly recorded in a deed; and
SUMMARY
This bill prohibits the placement of political signs within 25 feet of a known burial site or of the boundaries of an established cemetery.
