Amend the bill by striking out all of the 3rd and 4th Whereas paragraphs (page 1, lines 5 to 8 in L.D.) and inserting the following:
‘Whereas, current salaries for members of the State's judiciary remain among the lowest in the nation; and
Whereas, the cost-of-living adjustments should become effective July 1, 2014; and’
Amend the bill by striking out all of sections 1 to 7.
Amend the bill by inserting after section 8 the following:
‘Sec. 9. Judicial compensation; fiscal year 2014-15. In addition to the adjustments required in Public Law 2013, chapter 368, Part BB, section 1 and notwithstanding the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 4, section 4, the State Court Administrator shall adjust upward the salaries of the State's chief justices, chief judge, deputy chief judge, associate justices and associate judges by 2% on July 1, 2014.’
Amend the bill in the emergency clause in the 2nd line (page 2, line 24 in L.D.) by striking out the following: "2013" and inserting the following: '2014'
Amend the bill by relettering or renumbering any nonconsecutive Part letter or section number to read consecutively.

This amendment replaces the Judicial Compensation Commission’s recommended statutory salary increases for the justices and judges of the Supreme Judicial Court, Superior Court and District Court with a 2% adjustment for fiscal year 2014-15. The 2% increase is in addition to the 3% adjustments for each fiscal year 2013-14 and 2014-15 directed by Public Law 2013, chapter 368, Part BB.
