|
This bill
includes a General Fund appropriation of $74,381 in fiscal year 2013-14 and
$69,174 in fiscal year 2014-15 for the Judicial Department to establish a
process to collect the bail fee as a surcharge for those defendants who
cannot pay the bail commissioner fee at the time bail is set. The bill does not specify the amount of the
surcharge or what it is applied to.
Establishing a fund to pay the bail commissioner fee for indigent
defendants will increase costs to county correctional facilities. It may also reduce costs for housing
defendants. The amount of the
additional costs and potential savings cannot be estimated at this time. |
