Fiscal Detail and Notes
This legislation proposes to implement ranked-choice voting for Governor and State legislative candidates.  The Department of Secretary of State will require a General Fund appropriation of $142,198 in fiscal year 2013-14 and $45,801 in fiscal year 2014-15 to update the ballot tabulating machines, purchase additional memory devices, lease a high-speed vote tabulating unit and contract 2 limited-period Special Deputy positions to oversee the central ranked-choice voting counting process.  The Department of Public Safety will also require a General Fund appropriation of $75,926 and a Highway Fund allocation of $72,948 in fiscal year 2014-15 for overtime and fuel to retrieve, secure and return election ballots.
