Removing the
mandatory minimum sentence of one year of imprisonment for a conviction of
the crime of reckless conduct with a firearm may reduce the length of
sentences, resulting in reduced correctional costs. The average cost in a state correctional
facility is $111.34 per prisoner per day and the average cost in a county
correctional facility is $118.04. The
amount of any savings will depend on sentencing decisions by the courts and
cannot be estimated at this time. |
